Healthy Eating

What you eat, and how much, is so important for your health and wellbeing.

Maintaining a healthy weight and eating a balanced diet can lower your risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and cancer as well as reducing your risk from coronavirus.

If you are overweight, making small, simple changes to what and how much you are eating and drinking can really make a big difference to your health, but it’s often hard to know where to start. Listed below are some of the options available to our patients.  You may wish to discuss these further with the practice nurse or your GP, particularly if you have a Personal Health Planning appointment.

12 Week Weight Management Programme

This is a 12 week programme, devised by NHS Scotland which will help you to look at your current eating patterns. You will be encouraged to set goals for change and be supported to make small and manageable changes to your current lifestyle. To access the programme, click here.

Well Now

Well Now is a course run by NHS Highland for people interested in learning a different approach to weight management. It can help you develop better patterns of eating, such as learning to eat only when you’re physically hungry, stopping when you’re full and recognising when you’re eating because of how you feel. More information on Well Now is on the NHSH website here or contact NHS Highland Healthy Weight Services on Tel: 01667 422719 or Mobile: 07766 360073.

You can hear one recent course participant’s story of her experience with Well Now here. Well Now is not ‘just another diet’ it’s a course run by NHS Highland for people interested in learning a different approach to weight management. Catriona recently attended a local Well Now course and here she talks about the changes it helped her make to her lifestyle…

You can join a local Well Now course in the Highlands. These courses promote a way of life that focuses on intuitive eating and enjoyable physical activity rather than dieting and weight loss. We recognise that diets can be frustrating and often don’t work. The My well-being and me  leaflet explains more.

There is currently limited access to these courses, but we hope that they will be delivered locally in the course of 2020/21.
